Some Geometry Vocabulary (5-C-3 TMEE-OL)
Let’s go see what the web has to say about some key geometry vocabulary:
Pyramids & Prisms – these are often confused, but think about the Great Pyramids… just one base, right? Well, that’s how you can tell. A prism, on the other hand, is more like one of my favorite candies: The Toberlone bar with two bases.

Polyhedron – These come in many different shapes and sizes, but they do share some important key characteristics: All are solids that have flat faces and straight edges.

Platonic Solid? Well, that’s just a fancy name for a regular solid. These types of solid figures are made up of the same regular polygon repeated over and over.

A Net (of a Solid) is what a solid would look like if you opened it up and saw its components in a flat, 2-dimensional manner. Take the cylinder for example…. It might surprise you to learn that the net of this solid is really two circles and a rectangle (yep! a rectangle is what makes the round edges of the cylinder).

The friendly inviting language you have used in your definitions is a wonderful tool. It gives kids immediate access to the ideas behind the concepts. Your illustrations using real world objects further strengthens understanding.
